Hello there! My name is Christopher Bettis. I write folk horror and psychological thrillers rooted in the landscapes, histories and folklore of Cumbria. I’m drawn to stories where buried guilt and old mysteries unsettle ordinary lives, and where the natural world feels beautiful, watchful and just beyond understanding.

My work blends a strong sense of place with human dilemmas, creeping dread and the question of whether people choose to return to the past—or are called back to it.

If the themes that I explore sound up your street, you may be interested in my upcoming novel, ‘Seathwaite’ – check back soon for further details!

I welcome input from fellow admirers of the creepy, the uncanny and the disturbing. What do you find creepy when you wander in the woods, or climb up lonely mountain paths? Have you ever heard anything sinister, or seen anything eerie? Do you think anything might have seen you?

I’d love to hear from you.
